This is a great interview on the importance of the D vitamin.
Why You May Be Sick and Tired All The Time… And What to Do About It
You may feel sick and tired all the time and may not know why. There are many things that can cause us to be sick and tired however one of the most commonly overlooked factors of tiredness is the lack of Vitamin D. There is a huge link between Vitamin D and the energy levels that you have. Vitamin D can also prevent several different illnesses or pains that you may have. It’s a vital vitamin that everyone must have and make sure that they get enough of.
There are many reasons that you may not get enough Vitamin D in your diet. Many people work indoors and many others are lactose and tolerant. In fact you can get enough Vitamin D by simply being out in the sun for a little while each day. In 20 minutes of sun exposure you can get 100 times your daily Vitamin D requirement. You require about 4,000 units of Vitamin D a day and 20 minutes in the sun will get you 20,000 units. This is equivalent to drinking 40 glasses of milk or 10 multivitamins in one day! Many people are avoiding the sun do to the rising awareness of skin cancer and thus denying themselves of Vitamin D.
The problem is that by denying yourself sufficient levels of Vitamin D you are not only lowering your energy level however you’re also putting yourself at risk for several health problems both physical and mental. While many people don’t believe there is a link between the two the fact is that it does exist and it needs to be brought to everyone’s attention. Some of the problems that you may have include fatigue, weaker bones, depression, different types of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, immune disorders, flu, stroke, and chronic pain. Many people who lack Vitamin D notice one or more of these symptoms but especially the chronic pain and weak bones. It’s important that you understand that you need sufficient levels of Vitamin D so that you don’t have these problems and that you don’t have worry about being sick and tired all of the time.
